Over on the Napkin it's a Stephen King lovefest as everyone has come out of the closet and admitted to being massive Dark Tower fans, even though we all pretend that we read proper books. Going to see Hope Of The States on Friday. Apocalyptic doom rock fom Chichester is always a good idea. And really must get to see Spirited Away this week as well. I am glad to be out of this major league stretch of work I've just put in. My feeling is that having to work for a living is basically a rubbish thing to do. I know I could be doing a lot of worse things than selling records, but really I would just like to muck about for a lifetime and then die with no more mucking to be done. Is that so bad? |W|P|106477918614403686|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com9/24/2003 04:29:00 AM|W|P|dan|W|P|I am not even sure if badgers have mandibles. I know they are cheesy, and about as credible as a Dannii Minogue remix, but I had an absolutely cracking time. Sometimes a boy just wants to go into the pit and shout oi!oi!oi!, you know? I haven't seen the local badgers around for a while. I wonder if badgers hibernate? Or perhaps they are slowly but surely amassing their forces until the day arrives when they strike and Dublin is overrun by their mandibles of death. It could happen.|W|P|106434524012359160|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com9/20/2003 05:48:00 AM|W|P|dan|W|P|The last song on the last Warren Zevon album... Shadows are falling and I'm running out of breath Keep me in your heart for awhile If I leave you it doesn't mean I love you any less Keep me in your heart for awhile When you get up in the morning and you see that crazy sun Keep me in your heart for awhile it's all too much...|W|P|106400465039191896|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com9/20/2003 05:25:00 AM|W|P|dan|W|P|all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy ..but rereading A Suitable Boy makes him happy, despite having to work like a fiend this week. Visits from managing directors = total waste of time and too much work. Pah. We made it to see Buffalo Soldiers - I enjoyed it. For an opposing view please click on Tain's blog. But please bear in mind she clearly doesn't have a scooby. American soldiers high on smack stabbing each other is fine by me. |W|P|106400339739976999|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com9/18/2003 02:11:00 AM|W|P|dan|W|P|"I was travelling with Laurel, way up on the north coast She's got family living up here in a nearby town We found a piece of land that looks out towards the North Sea islands across the bay The sun is shining on the water today as I look out of my front door I'm never going back to the bad old world" |W|P|106381885459522105|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com9/18/2003 01:48:00 AM|W|P|dan|W|P|The main thing I have accomplished today is giving myself a comedy mohican. Dan + boredom x hair care products = a bad idea. Esther has just said I look like a two year who has been playing with shampoo in the bath. Punk rock!. Off to see Rancid next Monday. My appetite has definitely been whetted by yesterday's review in the Guardian, which described the Manchester gig as a "riot of stage invaders and flying lager". This is definitely a Good Thing. Before that we are finally going to see Buffalo Soldiers tonight with Tain, after her MA thesis has been given the once over by her tutor. Yikes. Hope it goes well for her. As ever, I am blogging to the mighty New Model Army. Over.|W|P|106381774193906619|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com9/16/2003 04:31:00 AM|W|P|dan|W|P|today I have been mainly thinking about words. I like "quotidian", because that is an unusual word that means exactly the opposite. In fact it is one of the least quotidian of words. It's all sex, drugs and the OED round here, I can tell you. In other news, "Tangled Up In Blue" by Bob Dylan is one of the best songs ever. I can prove it scientifically. We should be going to the cinema tomorrow with Tain, to see Buffalo Soldiers. Looking forward to it, but there are also about 565435982 other films I want to see as well at the moment, namely Belleville Rendezvous and Spirited Away. And Underworld which does look rubbish, but hey it's about vampires fighting werewolves. How bad can it be?|W|P|106365453429219758|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com9/13/2003 05:07:00 AM|W|P|dan|W|P|Well, starting a blog certainly seems to have worked. That is, if my aim was to kill lots of aging musicians. First Warren Zevon, now Johnny Cash. Crumbs. I hope Phil Collins is next. Never did like the slaphead bastard. |W|P|106339738337097310|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com9/12/2003 06:09:00 AM|W|P|dan|W|P|The big thing on Irish television at the moment is yet another reality game show called Celebrity Farm. It is about taking some celebrities whose fame is so microsized it is not even visible to the naked eye, and putting them on a farm. (A bit like Tap and their sophisticated view on sex). And not even in the woodchipping machine. Why do people like this sort of thing? Who are they? Are they my friends? My neighbours? I would rather saw my legs off than watch an instant of it. Quite clearly, Western culture has reached the end of its useful life. Time to invite the Taliban in and see if they do a better job. I will be back when I have figured out how to use the links column over there to actually link to some other sites, so you can read something else. It's better than watching Celebrity Farm.|W|P|106331493030064768|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com9/10/2003 07:57:00 PM|W|P|dan|W|P|"the dreams in which I'm dying are the best dreams that I've ever had" very strange dreaming last night, at least until 3am when I woke up and never really went back to sleep. Got some decent writing done this morning though, which i am happy about. Perhaps sleep deprivation is the key to creativity. |W|P|106319146832276247|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com9/10/2003 06:24:00 AM|W|P|dan|W|P|goodbye Warren. The bright side of the day was that I manged to get tickets for the last remaining Nick Cave show at Vicar St. Apparently the first two sold out in 20 minutes. The tickets weren't cheap - 50+ euros each, but hey, it's Nick Cave. He is my dark Australian lord and I must worship him. |W|P|106304899560425561|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com9/08/2003 05:04:00 AM|W|P|dan|W|P|Tonight the rain is falling heavily on Dublin. The sun was still out, and at about seven o'clock tonight it was shining directly through the trees into my window, giving the rainwater a beautiful silver cast against the green as it fell from the sky. Made me think of being in the Far East, and how good it would be to live out there. Maybe it's just that my recent reading matter has filled my head with romantic colonial dreams, but right now living in Singapore is one of the best things I can imagine. |W|P|106296508562632708|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com9/08/2003 12:14:00 AM|W|P|dan|W|P|second post is the "what the hell do I type on this thing?" post. Am I that interesting that I want people worldwide to share my daily experiences and thoughts? Or am I just going to foist it on you all anyway? Don't really know what will happen with this blog over time. Hopefully it will document my lifelong search to find THE ROCK in an amusing and wry manner. Or perhaps it will sit forgotten and unloved at the bottom of my favourites list, slowly mouldering and tended only by the little goblins who I believe run the internet. More than likely it will turn into a tedious list of books I have read and records I have listened to. I'm a bloke, I like lists. It's in my DNA or something. |W|P|106294766644450726|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com9/08/2003 12:00:00 AM|W|P|dan|W|P|first post is just a test post|W|P|106294680845404542|W|P||W|P|danpawley@gmail.com
