He went at a time and place of his own choosing, a final rebuttal of the increasingly distaseful world outside. Or maybe he was just an old man who needed help. I prefer the first. If you are playing Everquest II online you can order pizza from within the game so you don't have to leave your little fantasy world to phone for it. Way to undermine all those unfair stereotypes about gamers, Sony! A tasty little bit of media management this, to distract from the news at the weekend that Chas has awarded himself a 300% pay rise over the last few years...paid for at least in part by you and me. I quite honestly could not give two tits about these over rewarded and under educated inbred halfwits getting hitched. I used to wish the entire Royal family dead, but I learnt an important lesson from Diana's death. Namely, that they are a colossal pain in the arse when they do die, and Elton John goes to number one forever. Just throw them all onto a sink estate and take away the civil list. We went to Hay On Wye this week. If you don't know, it's a small town near Hereford that is full of second hand bookshops. Oh yes. Needless to say, I came back laden down - picked up about 15 books, and spent less than £30 (and £8.50 of that was on a nice Robertson Davies hardback edition). Stuff I'm especially looking forward to reading includes Any Old Iron by Anthony Burgess - I read Earthly Powers while on holiday and was very impressed with it, the first Burgess I'd ever read. Something else I forgot to mention a couple of weeks ago was the Ramones documentary End Of The Century. It was great - funny, sad and full of great music. The Ramones' best songs are American pop classics in the same way as Beach Boys songs are, and it's a shame they never got more credit while they were a going concern (and most of them were still alive). This film should be issued to everyone who's just bought a t-shirt from Urban Outfitters and never listened to the band. And Dee Dee Ramone is one of the best anti-drug advertisements I've ever seen. In other news, I spent most of yesterday working on a mix for my friend Tom. It's posted here if you're curious. Holiday photos up next post...
