In all honesty, I hadn't read one of his books for years, and quite likely will not read any in the foreseeable future, but there was a time in my earlier years that I loved his stuff, and absolutely lapped it up. It was normally pretty straightforward heroic fantasy, but with characters that were often quite interesting and contained more light and shade than the shining paragons of virtue you'll find in other books in the genre. He certainly gave me a lot a pleasure for a long time, and for that he is appreciated and missed. shinagawa aquarium (4), originally uploaded by maggie loves hopey.

We went to Shinagawa Aquarium over the weekend, where I found this rather special poster. I don't know what a dolphin horror show is either.

I also took lots of film of fish swimming about (only on my camera, so the quality isn't exactly HD) and set it to some poncey classical music. If that all sounds a bit soft, don't worry, there's a couple of bloody great sharks at the end. |W|P|115322076664600206|W|P|Fish (not out of Marillion)|W|P|danpawley@gmail.com7/17/2006 10:54:00 PM|W|P|dan|W|P|British ghost in India demands tea and cake|W|P|115314456891200856|W|P|Tiffin|W|P|danpawley@gmail.com7/12/2006 11:19:00 PM|W|P|dan|W|P| "An employee of Sanrio Co., Ltd. holds the "Fender Custom Shop Hello Kitty Stratocaster" of Fender Musical Instruments Corp. in Tokyo July 12, 2006. There had had better be a whole army of Cybermen to make up for this. posted by dan at 10:39 AM Rose isn’t going to die, is she? It is being telegraphed way too obviously for that to happen...my theory goes something like this. The trailer for Army Of Ghosts seems to indicate that the parallel world from Age Of Steel is merging with ours, maybe thanks to Torchwood and that meddling bint from Eastenders. As well as loads of Cybermen coming through, so does alterna-Pete, who already knows Rose is (kind of) his daughter. This Pete and real world Jackie meet up and, hey presto, happy families.|W|P|115243709239075931|W|P|Prescience Is An Underrated Virtue|W|P|danpawley@gmail.com7/09/2006 09:01:00 PM|W|P|Blogger doppelganger|W|P|well spotted.....7/07/2006 07:52:00 PM|W|P|dan|W|P|"Anti drunk-dialling cellphone. The LP4100 has a built-in breath analyzer that, when blown into by an intoxicated partier, gives a warning and displays a nifty little animation of a car swerving on a road and crashing into traffic cones. (Which should be easy for even the tipsy mind to understand.) The phone can also be programmed to block selected numbers in the address book--bosses, moms, exes, pizzerias--if the breath analyzer records a blood-alcohol concentration over 0.08. It's already a hit in Korea, where more than 200,000 of LG's Breathalyzer-type phones have been sold."
